Easter is a time of rememberence, sacrifice, and rebirth.  We celebrate the life and death of Jesus; his resurrection and acsention into heaven. 

Traditional religious themes that are used as a metaphor for a secular nature during springtime.  People tend to sacrafice things during the winter months because of the cold. Around March to May the wheather warms a little bit and it becomes a time for rebirth and planting new seeds for harvest in the Fall. The same sort of idea is also a tradition of a religous Easter.
