B. Gale Wilson as city manager of Fairfield California not only developed this grand City Hall and a Fantastic local mall. He also helped rename street signs in town after local heros and townsfolk. Their stories are out there in the public domain available for every curious person to find out.
However, one of the biggest street sign historical stories that exist in the town of Fairfied California is right here at City Hall. Webster and Kentucky are the cross streets that meet at three way roundabout. Webster ofcourse is named after Senator Daniel Webster who is famouse for his Senate Desk and the creation of the Congressional page program. He also is famouse for his compromise with another Senate historical figure by the name of Henry Clay of Kentucky. Mitch McConnel also named his desk after Henry Clay.
Their Compromise of 1850 allowed California to enter the Union as a free state and the only free state to have ever entered the Union with borders that went below the mason dixon line. The Compromise of 1850 was one of the last compromises before the Civil War broke out. As history has had it soon after 1850 the US Army created a military base in Solano County California in the town of Benicia. During the 1850's somefamous Civil War military commanders on both sides were stationed together side by side in Solano County California. Inclduing the future General and two term President Ulysses S. Grant.
