Description: NF, 474 pp.; vintage WWII with "books are weapons in the war of ideas" stamp on colophon page; Holt First Edition 1944; famous account of our "doughboys" U.S. Army soldiers from WWII's most famous and beloved war correspondent Ernie Pyle who died from a bullet to his left temple from a Japanese machine gun on an island west of Okinawa (Lejima) on April 18, 1945. In Brave Men Pyle covers thirty-five war stories in Sicily, Italy, England, and France. The book was published just before his death in the Pacific. Ernie Pyle was 43 years old when he died.
