Made in America Pint Glass

These pint glasses are made in the USA and should be handwashed.

The quote is after he defeated the British, developed Mt. Vernon into the largest distillery in the USA, and became President.  Prior to the formation of the United States of America and her federal government wealthy men in colonial america imported British beer and George Washington was not unlike other wealthy men of his time. 

That it until he became America's first President and made some changes.  One of his first actions was to stop purchasing beer from England and support local breweries in the United States of America.  

Beer and the support of local American Breweries was one of the first "Buy America" campaigns by a President. 

American Beer tradition took a big hit during prohibition and in the 1950's 1960's and 1970's it was common for people to dislike American beer because of its week taste and low alcohol content.  Marketing campaings like the Budweiser clydesdales made some breweries into monopolies. 

That is until small craft breweries began popping up and changing the game.  

American beer tradition has always been grouped into two styles.  In colonial America water treatment was poor so everybody drank beer or spirits as a means of survival more than anything else.  At places like Mt. Vernon they produced a recipe similiar to what is sold as "near beer" in places like Utah with a very low alcohol content and is typically a lager.  That recipe was given to the servents and staff. 

People like George Washington and other wealthy people would also produce a higher quality beer for themselves and their guests when socializing.  They would also purchase this higher quality craft beer from local breweries. 

This same tradition lives on today in America.  I find there are typically two kinds of beer drinkers.  The craft beer IPA (sometimes snobbish) drinkers, and the whatever gets the job done kind of beer drinker.  There are also some who are the smart ones and drinks the beer thats in front of them to fit the occassion they are at.
