Shift Happens Trucker Cap

The design of this hat is inspired by me learning how to drive on a manual transmission.  Psychology is kind of like the difference between an automatic transmission and a manual transmission.  Sometimes people think things are easy, they just press the gas and the break to go and stop and all you have to do is set it in drive or park.  

The truth is the world of feelings and psychology is a little more complicated, shifts in feelings and our individual psychology happen throughout our lives.  We have to figure out how to control them and putting our life and psychology into gear by shifting them up or down, or at the very least maintain control even when we are out of control and the transmission is wonky, which occurs with "Life Happens"

Politics is pretty much like that as well.  I know for some people who study politics the idea is that you can just set something once through a policy and then do nothing and watch it drive itself to the destination.  The truth is sometimes in politics things go off an unexpected exit, they hit a traffic jam, there are shifts in feelings and atittudes that are difficult to notice.  Politicians during a campaign my sometimes think they are cruising at high speed to the end in 5th and are doing a fantastic job, but in reality the public might feel like thigns are stuck in nuetral and have not gone anywhere yet, resulting in an unexpected shift in results.

Any way etymology tends to help get me out of the words often misused by politicians and the media.  For example, people may be stuck on the root word "Trans" to be mean something sexual.  

And guess what... that's because it is but not in the way it's often times used.  For example: languange can be a tool in someone's seduction toolbox, and TRANSlating the love language of a significant other is a key to a successul relationship. 

There are storytellers and video editors who put a lot of thought into how to TRANSition from one scene to another, or one plot point to another, or one cut to another. This is an everyday normal creative use of the word that has nothing to do with society's common usage regarding gender.

People will be taking TRANSatlantic flights to get to Paris this summer, and Paris is as seductive as a city as they come. 

Some people use the metaphor of a garden for psychology and seduction, and in a garden TRANSplanting is an everyday normal occurance. 

In banking and business there are countless TRANSactions that occur everyday where money switches from one account to another. 

Also there are countless people everyday who take public TRANSportation and have to TRANSfer from one bus to another or one train to another.  This is an everyday normal occurance. 

The point being is that there is nothing inherently abnormal about the root word.  But in common usage people tend to not notice these other uses of the word hidden in other words, and the "trans issue" has become a lightning rod in our politics in 2024.  I think we whould instead grab a thesaurus and get to work at being a little more saner and follow traditional science a little better.
