Description: VG, 296 pp.; Harper & Row First Editon 1971; The only novel written by famous American poet Slyvia Plath. The Bell Jar is about Esther Greenwood a college student who dreams of becoming a poet and has an internship as editor for Ladies Day in New York City. The novel is semiautobiographical. Plath in real life was married to American poet Ted Hughes. She committed suicide one month after The Bell Jar was published in London in 1963. It was not published in the United States until 1971 due to the wishes of her husband and her mother. Slyvia Plath struggled with mental illness much of her life.; Made into a Hollywood movie Sylvia (2003) directed by Christine Jeffs starring Gwyneth Paltrow as Sylvia Plath and Daniel Craig as her husband poet Ted Hughes. front and rear pasted endpapers damaged from taped dust jacket; bookstore stamp on front free endpaper; stamp on top fore edge.
