The novel is about Danny who inherets two houses from his grandfather in Tortilla Flat where he provides much comfort to his friends who all learn valuable life lessons about evil, the forgiveness of sins, and the will to do good onto others as a part ot thier redemption. Tortilla Flat was made into a Hollywood movie (1942) directed by Victor Fleming. Danny Alvarez is played by Jonn Garfield and his friends Pablo and Pilon are played by Akim Tamaroff and Spencer Tracy. Heddy Lamar plays Delores who is Danny's girlfriend.; There are many fine illustrations by Ruth Gannett throughout the novel.
