Description: NF, 389 pp.; rare antique book over 100 years old; John Murray of London first published Typee on February 26, 1846; published the folloiwing month in New York by Wiley and Putnam on March 17, 1846. Typee is Herman Melville's first novel written after a two year sea voyage including living four months on the Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia.; Typee made Melville famous in America and Europe. Melville died on September 28, 1891. This Arthur Stedman revised edition of Typee was published nine months later in June 1892. It includes a literary biography of Herman Melville by Stedman. It was copyrighted (1892) by the author's wife Elizabeth S. Melville and published by The St. Botolph Society, 53 Beacon St. Boston.; this edition has blue boards with gold lettering on front cover title and author; blue, white and gold embossment of a sailing ship on front cover; gold on seashell, title, author, and pubisher on spine; A photograph of Herman Melville next to title page and three illustrations compliment this edition.; signature "S.W. Ford" on front free endpaper; small San Francisco bookdealer stamp on rear pasted endpaper next to bottom hinge.
